The main objective of this workshop which was held in the Center of economic and technological development of Vojvodina (CePTOR), Andrevlje, Serbia, was to launch initiative and concrete actions on the ground to test the approach based on the development of the territory and to prepare a pilot project for an integrated approach to economic development “Drina-Sava” cross-border region.
The following two main topics were elaborated:
- Introduction and discussion on the Integrated approach to economic development in cross-border regions in the Western Balkans, and
- Presentation and discussion on the proposed micro areas/route for implementation of actions for integrated economic development and financing of the project
The first topic was covered in plenary. The stakeholders and potential partners from “Drina-Sava” CBR agreed and listed the potential activities/steps that need to be implemented in the future related to the integrated economic development and defined 4 (four) main criteria for selecting pilot micro areas/routes:
1 – Involvement of at least two countries;
2 – Involvement of at least two sectors;
3 – Partnership and cooperation to be established among existing operators (e.g. farmers, processors, public/private service providers etc.), and
4 – Include attractive/unique/special story, site, product, service to be offered.
During the second day, the workshop participants split into two groups in order to define/propose micro areas/routes. By consensus, the participants agreed on one micro region, with more activities, which includes all three countries of the region, and they elected the route which was presented by the second group: Drenovici-Bijeljina-Sremska Mitrovica.
The Operational protocol of the stakeholders’ group from „Drina – Sava” cross-border region should be adopted on the next meeting which should be organized in the first half of December.
