“Pumpkin Day 2017”, 3 November 2017 in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe, within the SWG GIZ project “Rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe: Rural perspectives: qualification, reintegration and (self) employment”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, supported the organization of the regional event “Pumpkin Day 2017”. The event was organized by the family Sjerić from the village of Ljeljenča at the farm “Prirodnol” on the 3rd of November 2017. The event had the goal to promote the cultivation of pumpkin, products from this agricultural culture and a healthy lifestyle in which these products can have an important role.

The aim of the regional event “Pumpkin Day 2017” was encouraging the agricultural producers to produce alternative cultures as an opportunity for rural development, as well as creating an environment for employment of women in rural areas and promotion of local entrepreneurship, thus making impact to the promotion of the region and its specific values and generating additional income for the agricultural producers.

The event “Pumpkin Day 2017” contributed to the linking among producers and processors into “small value chains”, aiming to enhance cooperation and easier access to local and regional markets, as well as to further economic development of the region and its rural population.
