“International Conference on Cooperatives in South East Europe” 15-16 December 2014, Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe and the Department of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of the Government Brcko District supported the organization of the regional event: “International Conference on Cooperatives in South East Europe” which was organized by the Cooperative Association of the Brcko District of BiH as a two-day conference on cooperatives. Participation in this international conference took the representatives of cooperative unions from countries of South-Eastern Europe, representatives of the legislative and executive powers as well as representatives of NGOs.

Cooperative Association of the Brcko District of BiH, in cooperation with SWG and the Department of Agriculture, Water and Forestry Brcko District organize a two-day conference on cooperatives. Participation in this international conference took the representatives of cooperative unions from countries of South-Eastern Europe, representatives of the legislative and executive powers as well as representatives of NGOs.

The aim of the conference was to present the current state of the cooperative movement, exchange of experience and to show the possibility offered to cooperatives from EU funds.

The expected results of the conference

  • To define the current status of cooperatives in Brčko District, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as cooperative of countries of Southeast Europe.
  • To propose a roadmap for the alignment of cooperatives of countries of South East Europe with the EU cooperatives.
  • Strengthening and learning about the importance and possibilities of cooperatives, as a resource of employment.
  • Harmonization of legislation.
  • Resolution of property relations in cooperatives.
