“Circle of friendship – International cycling marathon in the Drina-Sava region” 4-8 October, 2014

The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe supported the organization of the regional event: “Circle of friendship – International cycling marathon in the Drina-Sava region”, a touristic recreational cycling 4-day marathon attended by 13 bicyclist how who have driven the entire route, and 42 participants who have joined and drove in some parts of the rout.

The marathon started in Brcko – Bosnia and Herzegovina, over to Municipality Nijemci were the bicyclist were hosted by Major of Municipality Nijemci Mr. Ivica Klem and visited the Center for bird watching. In Ilok the bicyclist spend the first night, after that they continued their trip to Sremska Mitrovica – Nature reserve Zasavica and Sabac were they visited the Center for Professional Development (CSU) Sabac. The next stop was in Loznica-Trsic were the bicyclist visited ethno village Trsic before hiding back to Brcko. Participants visited all municipalities of the Cross border region “Drina-Sava” as one of the Area Based Development Approach (ABDA) target regions.

“Circle of friendship” gathered regional tourism with an accent encouraging the economic development of the region and its rural population. This regional event promoted natural, cultural and traditional values, as well as the tourism potential of the cross-border region “Drina-Sava”.

This activity is part of the EU funded project: ”Preparation for implementation of Area Based Development Approach in the Western Balkans – second phase” implemented by SWG.
