The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe Europe within the SWG project: “Strengthening regional capacities for rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe (LEIWW)” supported the organization of the “18th memorial Vitomir Dizdarevic – Admiral Kuk Drina-Sava international recreational-touristic kayak-canoe Regatta” which was organized by the Kayak Club “Srpski veslači’’ and held in the period from 29.04 – 07.05.2017 in the cross-border regions of “Drina-Sava” and “Drina-Tara”.
The “18th memorial Vitomir Dizdarevic – Admiral Kuk Drina-Sava international recreational-touristic kayak-canoe Regatta” was a nine (9) days regatta which gathered this year around 100 participants from Australia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia. During the regatta, the participants were accommodated in different camps in the cities and municipalities through which the regatta passes by, which was a good opportunity for promotion of the tourism potentials of the regions.
The aim of this event was the promotion of natural, cultural and historical potential of the Drina-Sava region, and Eastern Bosnia and Western Serbia. The regatta binds local communities and creates joint touristic offer by strengthening the partnerships, especially in the tourism sector, among the municipalities located along the Drina River. During the regatta, the participants were hosted by small entrepreneurs in the camps or in private accommodation. They had the opportunity to taste and buy healthy traditional food from small farms and discover cultural tradition presented by local cultural and artistic groups, mostly their young members.
